An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Italian Locandina Movie Poster (measures 13 1/2" x 19 1/4" (Learn More) Ladri di Biciclette (released in the U.S. in 1949 as "The Bicycle Thief" and in England as "Bicycle Thieves"), the classic 1948 Vittorio De Sica Italian neorealist melodrama ("Academy Award outstanding foreign language film 1949"; about a man and his son who search for a vital missing bicycle; most people rightfully consider this one of the handful of absolute finest movies ever made!) starring Lamberto Maggiorani, Enzo Staiola, Lianella Carell, Gino Saltamerenda, and Vittorio Antonucci. Note that the Italian title literally translates to "The Bicycle Thieves", but for unknown reasons, the movie became "The Bicycle Thief" when it was released in English-speaking countries! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Carlantonio Longi Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare "country of origin" poster for this Italian movie! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Note that this poster will need to be sent in a very large flat package that measures approximately 15" x 21" x 1" high, so please bear the shipping costs of this very large package in mind BEFORE you place a bid! Condition: good to very good. Prior to being paperbacked, the card was folded down the middle and there were creases and tears around the edges of the poster and some scuffs scattered in the image. There was a semi-circular tear in the bottom right corner that separated that portion of the card from the rest of the card, and tiny paper loss in the top blank corners. The person who paperbacked the card pretty much just backed it "as is", doing next-to-no restoration. They also left alone a tax stamp that is in the top left of the card.
