Date Sold 8/30/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 7" x 10" [18 x 25 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More) One Night in the Tropics, the 1940 A. Edward Sutherland south-of-the-border singing-and-dancing musical romantic melodrama ("From the Novel 'Love Insurance', by Earl Derr Biggers"; "Jerome Kern tops 'Show Boat' and 'Roberta'!"; "starring this All-Star... All Entertainment Cast") starring Allan Jones, Nancy Kelly, Bud Abbott & Lou Costello (Abbott and Costello), Robert Cummings (Bob Cummings), Mary Boland, Leo Carrillo, William Frawley, and Peggy Moran. Note that this was Abbott & Costello's very first movie, and they are billed on this one-sheet as "Those Radio sensations of 'I'm a baaad boy' fame" (they are billed the same way on all of the other posters, and are not pictured on any posters or the title card, but they ARE pictured on the herald!). Apparently, Universal did not realize what a gold mine they would soon have in this incredible comedy duo, but they made up for it by rushing them into many movies over the next several years! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned an example of this herald! Also note that when this movie was first released, Abbott and Costello were not pictured on hardly any of the advertising, but they ARE prominently pictured on this first release herald! This is one of a collection of 9 rare heralds from the late 1930s and early 1940s (in 9 separate auctions). Many of them are ones we have either never auctioned before or only auctioned once or twice. The heralds were all printed in the U.S., but were mostly used in theaters in Egypt, so most have overprinting on the back for an Egyptian movie theater. Also, almost all of the heralds have tiny circular holes scattered in the image (sometimes very few, sometimes more). We strongly suggest you look closely at our images of the fronts and backs of these rare heralds before bidding on them, so you can see the location of the tiny circular holes or larger paper loss. We previously auctioned a number of heralds from this same collection, and while there are more left from this collection, all the best titles will have been auctioned after this set of auctions, and likely the remaining ones, which are from lesser movies, will be auctioned in bulk lots. Condition: good. There are around three tiny circular holes scattered in the herald, along with two thin strips of paper loss within the image. See above for more about the condition of this herald and please look at our super-sized images of both sides before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
