An Unfolded German Advertising Poster (measures 33" x 94" [84 x 239 cm]) (Learn More) Stuttgarter Zeitung (literally translates to "Stuttgart Newspaper") is a German-language daily regional newspaper which was founded in 1945. The state of Baden-Wurttemberg (where the city of Stuttgart is located) was part of the American occupation zone from 1945 to 1949, and it was the U.S. Information Control Division that issued the first publishing license to the editors of the paper. Artist: Walter Muller Important Added Info: The term Sachplakat, or Object Poster, was coined in Germany around 1905 to describe a new type of poster which featured a realistic depiction of the product and little else. The craze for this poster type continued in Switzerland, where the passion for precision in printing and drawing technique was unsurpassed. Shortly after, the iconic beauty of the everyday object became the mission of a group of artists in Basel, who made the Sachplakat the leading Swiss style in the '40s and early '50s. Often laced with humor and of stunning visual impact, these posters represent the last great period of the lithographic poster, which high cost and long production cycles was soon to eliminate. Note that this poster may have been used on Litfass columns. Litfass columns are sidewalk advertising structures invented by German printer Ernst Litfass in 1854, and they can be found all over Germany. It has been printed in two sections that are designed to overlap each other (see our image). Condition: very good. The poster was never folded.
