An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 6" x 8 3/4" [15 x 22 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More)

The Toy Wife, the 1938 Richard Thorpe Louisiana historical romantic love triangle melodrama ("She said, 'Make the most of life and love'"; about a disturbed but beautiful 16 year-old girl who inflicts misery, first by stealing her sister's fiance and then being unfaithful to him after he marries her, and being a terrible mother to their child) starring Luise Rainer, Melvyn Douglas, Robert Young, Barbara O'Neil, and H.B. Warner. Note that Luise Rainer, who had won back to back Best Actress Oscars in 1936 and 1937, was solely offered parts like this after those wins, and she became disenchanted with Hollywood, and retired from the movies the year this movie was made. She made a few non-Hollywood movies over the rest of her life. Getting away from Hollywood obviously agreed with her, because she passed away in 2014 at the age of 104!
