eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 2t008 AMERICANO linen 3sh R1910s art of accidental revolutionary Douglas Fairbanks Sr., rare! Date Sold 12/12/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably late 1910s) Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) The Americano, the 1916 John Emerson silent romantic adventure comedy ("The fight for the overthrow of the new 'Government' is on..."; "The story of a breezy American mining engineer who gets mixed up in a Central American revolution"; "The story of a breezy American mining-engineer who stops a Central American revolution and becomes Commander-in-Chief of the Armies of Paragonia"; "Supervised by D.W. Griffith"; based on the book Blaze Derringer by Eugene P. Lyle Jr.) starring Douglas Fairbanks Sr., Alma Rubens, Spottiswoode Aitken, Carl Stockdale, Tote Du Crow, "and a notable cast". Note that this movie was released by Triangle in 1916, and there were Triangle movie posters made in 1916. There were also movie posters from "S.A. Lynch Enterprises, Inc.". It is possible that this movie distributed the movie on a states rights basis on its first run in 1916, or it could be from a re-release soon after. In any event, the S.A. Lynch posters are not from the very first release of the movie, because states rights releases occurred after the initial release (which was solely in major cities). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this three-sheet! It is from the S.A. Lynch release of this movie. As noted above, this could be from 1916 after it played in major cities, or it could be from soon after. If it is, it would be from the continuous first release of the movie, but we list it as a "re-release" to make it clear that it is not from the very first release from Triangle Pictures. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had some tears and paper loss on parts of some folds and darkening in the bottom section, which included the title and credits. There was also some small paper loss in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. See our image to see exactly where the paper loss is. We imagine a talented restorer could finish the restoration on this poster without re-backing it, or one could choose to display it as it is. Please do not bid on this poster unless you have carefully read the above. Learn More about condition grades
