eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result #4568 LADIES' MAN LC #3 '31 Powell & Francis Date Sold 4/8/2003Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Ladies' Man, the 1931 Lothar Mendes gigolo-trying-to-find-happiness romantic love triangle melodrama ("Women were his Prey! Love was his Bait!"; an odd story with Powell as a gigolo who has an affair with a rich older woman, and her daughter falls in love with him, and in addition, there is a rich society woman who also falls in love with Powell, and there is an unhappy resolution to all of this) starring William Powell (as Jamie Darricott), Kay Francis (as the society woman), Carole Lombard (as the daughter of the older woman), Gilbert Emery, Olive Tell (as the older woman), and Martin Burton. Note that William Powell was married to Carole Lombard at the time of this movie, and certainly, he must be envied for getting to play love scenes with both his wife, Carole Lombard, and with sensuous Kay Francis! Note that the screenplay for this movie was written by Herman J. Mankiewicz. He is most remembered today for having co-written the script for Citizen Kane with Orson Welles (there is much debate as to how much Welles actually wrote). However, he had a really major career as a screenwriter prior to Citizen Kane! He started as a newspaper columnist for a news service right after World War I, and then he became a columnist for many of the major New York newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times and The New Yorker. In the late 1920s, he went to Hollywood and became a top screenwriter, heading the Paramount screenwriting department for several years! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: NOTE: In this case, the #3 in the title of the sale is not the number of the lobby card. Because we are selling more than one lobby card from this movie this week as separate eBay sales, we needed to differentiate the different sales, and we did so by marking them "#1, #2, #3, etc..". Condition: good to very good. card has darkened somewhat with age 1" light vertical crease and scuff extending through Powell's nose at upper center as well as a 3" vertical crease in the upper left of the image background; scuffing and a few minor creases throughout the card; tiny brown stain in the upper left of the image background; Truthfully, almost all of the above defects are most noticeable when the card is tilted to the light or when it is looked at from inches away. From any distance away, the minor defects are greatly diminished (except for the scuffs in Powell's jacket) and the card looks nice! But please do not bid on this card unless you can accept its defects. Learn More about condition grades
