An Original 1924 Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Die Flamme (released in the U.S. in 1924 as "Montmartre" and "The Flame"), the 1923 Ernst Lubitsch German silent romantic marriage melodrama ("A love story of a the Latin Quarter of Paris"; "Adapted from the play 'The Flame' by Hans Muller"; about a 19th century French aristocrat who marries a beautiful woman who has had many lovers, and he has trouble keeping her faithful to him!) starring Pola Negri, Hermann Thimig, Alfred Abel, Max Adalbert, and Jenny Marba. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning and we have only auctioned a single Swedish poster for the film and no movie paper of any other kind for it whatsoever! Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Note that this poster is very unusual in that it was created by combining two examples of the original poster! See below for exactly hos this was done, and also know that there are two other posters like this in this auction, and those two have this same paragraph on them. All three are incredibly rare! Condition: good to very good. The person who owned this owned two examples of this poster! One of them had 3" trimmed from the bottom, and fortunately the other had much damage to the upper area, but the bottom 11" was in nice condition. They came up with an unusual way to deal with this. They trimmed off the bottom 11" from the one that had no damage in that area and simply attached it to the front of the other poster by attaching it with tape from the back. So there is 11" of a second poster laying on top of the bottom 8" of the poster that was missing 3" from the bottom! Both posters had been folded vertically and had some darkening and separation along the folds, but were otherwise in pretty nice condition, especially considering the age of the posters. Someone put tape on the back of the other areas of the separation, but otherwise did not restoration. One could certainly simply display this incredibly rare poster as it is or one might choose to have a professional restorer separate the two posters and then properly paperback them together. This IS a complete poster, although it was made from two different posters as explained above. Learn More about condition grades
