Date Sold 1/23/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) The Fleet's In, the 1928 Malcolm St. Clair silent Navy Naval military sailor romantic comedy ("Yoo-hoo girls The Fleet's In!"; about a sailor who meets a girl who works in a dance hall, but he mistakenly thinks she is a "working girl", so he doesn't want anything to do with her, but she wins him over) starring Clara Bow, James Hall, Jack Oakie, Bodil Rosing, Eddie Dunn, and Jean Laverty. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. The plot of this movie was incredibly popular! It was remade in 1936 as "Lady Be Careful" starring Lew Ayres and Mary Carlisle, again in 1942 starring Dorothy Lamour and William Holden, and again in 1952, re-titled "Sailor Beware", starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis! Note that Clara Bow was the most famous "flapper girl" of the mid to late 1920s (she became known as "The It Girl" after the character she played based on the popular novel by Elinor Glyn). She had a major role in Wings, and was Paramount's biggest star at that time. But she had a notorious private life and seemingly "settled down" when she married cowboy star Rex Bell in 1931 (she had two children and she retired from movies), but sadly in 1949 she went into a mental institution after a failed suicide attempt (she had had psychiatric issues for quite some time) and she was released but never returned to her family, and lived alone until her death in 1965. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: fair. There is light staining scattered in the card and some small tears and paper loss around the edges in the blank borders. Obviously, the card can be restored, but bear its defects and the cost of restoration in mind before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
