Note that this is the only movie Broadway actress Helen Gahagan made. Afterwards, she married actor Melvyn Dougas, becoming Helen Gahagan Douglas, and later became a two-term member of the House of Representatives. She ran for Senator against Richard Nixon, but lost, but she did get even with him by frequently using his nickname, "Tricky Dick"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1935 movie posters from this classic movie are incredibly rare. A few window cards and lobby cards have surfaced over the years, but virtually no first release posters. This is the very first poster larger than a window card from the first release of this movie that we have ever auctioned! Also note that this poster has never been folded! Some pre-1970 half-sheet posters were folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 half-sheet posters (note that most post-1970 half-sheets were NOT folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those half-sheets). Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has tiny paper loss in the bottom blank corners and in the top right blank corner, with small paper loss in the right of the top blank border. It has creases, smudges, and some stains in the blank borders, with several tears scattered in the borders, but only a few of them extend into the edges of the image (the longest one is in the left of the top border, and extends into the top of Gahagan's hair). There are some faint smudges in the yellows of the letters of the title, but other than the defects noted above, the image area is in really nice condition. Someone once, decades ago, put pieces of tape on the back of the tears. Previous owners of the incredibly rare poster have chosen to leave it exactly as it is, no doubt because the defects barely show when it is displayed in a frame. Certainly, one could choose to have restoration performed, or one could choose to leave it as is, but either way, the new owner of this poster will have an incredibly rare and striking poster to display on their wall!
