An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War II Poster (measures 20" x 27 1/2" [51 x 70 cm]) (Learn More) Buy Extra Bonds, the 1945 U.S. World War II (WWII) War Bond poster ("Jap... you're next"; "The mighty 7th war loan") encouraging citizens to purchase war bonds, and featuring James Montgomery Flagg art of Uncle Sam rolling up his sleeves and wielding a large wrench! Note that this poster is far more rare than other James Montgomery Flagg posters, including the iconic "I Want YOU" poster! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: James Montgomery Flagg Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster was mounted onto a thin linen with no excess (this was almost surely done soon after it was created). There is an area of water staining in the top left that affects the bottom of the "P", and water staining in the center of the top border. There are some water stains in the middle left, entering the top of the wrench. There are smudges scattered in all the white background areas and in the letters of the title. There are tiny tears around the edges, with creases and tears in the bottom title area, with tiny paper loss (see our image). I feel certain that the new owner of this great poster will immediately have it removed from the old linen and properly backed. This is the sort of poster that responds really well to professional restoration. It is likely that much or all of the smudges and staining can be removed through chemical means, after which the poster will look fantastic! Learn More about condition grades
