An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Forbidden Planet, the classic 1956 Fred McLeod Wilcox science fiction (sci-fi) outer space robot monster thriller ("Amazing!"; "In Cinemascope and Color"; "Based on the story by Irving Block & Allen Adler"; very loosely adapted from William Shakespeare's "The Tempest"; about space men who journey to a distant planet, and they find that all the members of the original expedition have died, except for one man and his daughter, and they have discovered the secrets of a long lost civilization called "The Krell", which dwarfs anything humans have ever discovered, but there is a very dark side to those secrets that is soon revealed) starring Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen, Warren Stevens, Jack Kelly, Richard Anderson, Earl Holliman (as the cook, who was put in the movie for comic relief), Robby the Robot (billed as "Introducing Robby the Robot"), James Drury, and Frankie Darro (who was inside the robot suit until he was fired early in the production for showing up inebriated and almost damaging the expensive prop). Note that after Robby the Robot appeared in this movie, he had another movie role in "The Invisible Boy", and then he appeared in a slightly modified version as the robot in TV's "Lost in Space". On November 21, 2017, the original "Robby the Robot" was auctioned, and it sold for $5.375 million! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The bottom portion of this poster was missing. It is the bottom 17 1/2" of the poster, with all the credits (in a straight line directly below the word "STARRING"). The portion of the poster that was present contains all of the artwork and all of the title, and ONLY the credits were missing. The upper part of the poster that was present had creases, tears, and some paper loss on parts of many foldlines and also a few scattered in the lower part of the image. There were some tears around the edges of that upper section. A restorer recreated the entire missing credits area onto a separate sheet and mounted it together with the area that was present. They also performed restoration to the defects described above in the section that was present. You can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects, but from a reasonable viewing distance, the poster displays pretty well, and I think few people would realize that the bottom credits area had been recreated, but bear this in mind before placing a bid on this poster.
