An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Six-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 81" x 81") (Learn More) East Is West, the 1930 Monta Bell China/San Francisco romantic love triangle crime thriller ("From the famous stage play by Samuel Shipman and John B. Hymer"; Ayres is an American in China who sees Asian Lupe Velez on the auction block, and he rescues her and takes her to San Francisco, where she is about to be forced to marry the Asian Chop Suey King, Edward G. Robinson, so Ayres kidnaps her, intending to marry her) starring Lupe Velez ("as Ming Toy"), Lew Ayres (billed as "Lewis Ayres the Paul Baumer of 'All Quiet On the Western Front'"), Edward G. Robinson, E. Allyn Warren, and Tetsu Komai. Note that this is a remake of the 1922 silent movie starring Constance Talmadge. Also note that, as was common in early Hollywood, non-Asian actors were hired to play Asians, and they did this through the use of "yellowface" makeup (similar to "blackface" makeup that had been used for so long). Often, this was in movies that featured "interracial romances" between Asians and westerners, and those who participated in such romances were shunned and often they led to murders or suicides. Thankfully, these sorts of movies and the practice of actors performing in "yellowface" has almost completely been abandoned! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this six-sheet was printed in 4 sections. Also note that this 1930 movie featured Lupe Velez, who was a major star of the 1920s, a very young Lew Ayres, who had just achieved stardom in "All Quiet on the Western Front", and Edward G. Robinson, who the following year would become a major star with "Little Caesar"! Condition: very good to fine. there is separation and tiny paper loss at some crossfolds; there are creases and a few tiny tears on some foldlines; there are small tears and creases around the edges of each section. Overall, I would say that the poster has survived in about as good condition as one could possibly imagine a 74 year-old poster being in (especially a six-sheet poster)! Aside from the fact that the defects are very minor, the paper is extremely white and virtually not fragile at all. If this poster is linenbacked it will look great! Learn More about condition grades
