Important Added Info: Note that this script has been personally autographed (signed) by Francis Ford Coppola! Also note that this script is the second draft from September 24, 1973 and the screenplay was written by Mario Puzo & Francis Ford Coppola. The script has a fascinating provenance! It was owned by Steve Shapiro, who was a political photographer in the 1960s, following Bobby Kennedy and the Civil Rights Movement, and he photographed some of the most iconic political moments from the 1960s! In 1969, he mostly switched to becoming a movie photographer, first working on Midnight Cowboy in 1969. In 1972, he was hired as the principal publicity photographer for The Godfather, and at that time, Francis Ford Coppola gave him a script for The Godfather (and two years later, Mr. Coppola gave him this very script for The Godfather Part II). In 2016, Mr. Shapiro was visiting the Coppolas at their Ranch, after the publication of his Godfather Family Album Taschen book, and he brought along the two scripts Mr. Coppola had given him so long before, and Mr. Coppola signed each of the scripts on the first page! We are auctioning the script for The Godfather in a separate auction. This is a rare opportunity to purchase one or both of these scripts, both with great provenance, and both signed! Condition: good to very good. There are two vertical creases on the cover and a diagonal crease in the top right corner, with some smudges and faint stains on the covers. The interior pages are in generally nice condition. See our multiple images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this script. Learn More about condition grades
