A 1956 Re-Release Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) King Kong, the classic 1933 Merian C. Cooper & Ernest B. Schoedsack Africa New York City giant ape fantasy romantic love triangle adventure horror thriller ("'The most awesome thriller of all time' the one and only"; "Not beast.. Not human.... Not devil.. But all three magnified! Raging.. Roaring.. Crushing.. Killing.."; "Strangest story ever conceived by man!"; "Out-leaping the maddest imaginings! Out-thrilling the wildest thrills!"; "See the living, fighting monsters of Creation's dawn rediscovered in the world today!"; "See the death-fight between giant ape and prehistoric dinosaur... the most amazing combat since the world began!"; "See the ape as big as a battleship wrecking New York!"; "Unique..! Thrilling! Startling!"; "From an idea conceived by Edgar Wallace & Merian C. Cooper"; based on the story by Edgar Wallace, with incredible special effects by Willis O'Brien) starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong (as Carl Denham), Bruce Cabot, Frank Reicher, and Sam Hardy NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the first release 1933 King Kong insert is incredibly rare, and would cost a fortune to purchase. But this 1956 re-release insert has a great full-color image that does not appear on any 1933 posters, and certainly it would be a great alternative to a collector who wants a King Kong poster for their collection without taking a King Kong-sized bite out of their wallet (and the 1952 re-release insert has a duotone image, so this one is much more preferable to that 4 years earlier re-release)! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that while this poster technically COULD be rolled in a tube, the backing is heavy enough that we strongly advise against it. Therefore, we will only send this poster in a very large flat package, unless the new owner insists on a tube, and accepts responsibility for any damage caused by it being rolled. The poster will arrive fine and display great if it is sent in a flat package, but it will cost more to send this way, especially if the poster is being sent outside the U.S., so please only bid on this poster when you take into mind the cost of shipping it in a very large flat package. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was only folded across the middle and it had an extra horizontal fold 1/2" below the that fold, it had some minor wear on those two folds. It had pinholes in the corners and light brown stains and a few creases and small tears in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The person who backed the poster did very little border restoration, likely rightfully assuming they will not show when the poster is framed. The image area displays quite well (see our image).
