He was one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts, and the second American to fly ins space. Grissom died tragically in the Apollo 1 pre-launch test on January 27, 1967 with his fellow astronauts Ed White and Roger B. Chafee. He was only 40 years old. She does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic.
