Thayer art of a soldier choking on a cloud of poison gas! This poster would have been posted on military bases prior to the U.S. entering the war, and it gave a vital message that all soldiers needed to read and pay attention to it. Note that you might think that this poster is referring to the infamous "mustard gas" that was used extensively in World War I, but that was not developed until 1917, and this poster predates that. However, there were other chemical weapons being used at the time such as tear gas (which was largely ineffective), chlorine and phosgene. Artist: W.G. Thayer Condition: good. There are tears around the edges, with paper loss in the right of the top border that extends into the image background.
