An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More)

Fatal Lady, the 1936 Edward Ludwig South America musical romantic love triangle murder mystery thriller (a wacky story of an opera singer who, on the day of her debut, has a boyfriend murdered, which causes her to perform terribly, and she is humiliated; she travels to South America and performs under assumed names, but wherever she goes, any man showing interest in her soon dies; it turns out it was an older man who was mentoring her who committed the murders, and was insanely jealous of anyone showing her affection!) starring Mary Ellis, Walter Pidgeon, John Halliday, Ruth Donnelly, Alan Mowbray, Norman Foster, and Guy Bates Post. Note that Mary Ellis was, like Grace Moore, an opera singer who made a few movies. The writers would have her play a character who would sing a few songs in each movie! Also note that this movie essentially modernized the plot of "Phantom of the Opera", and it was no doubt chosen because the star was an actual opera singer, and it gave her a chance to perform several times in the movie. Note that Walter Pidgeon was born in 1897, and started making silent movies in the mid 1920s, but he had limited success. He had a wonderful speaking voice, but that did not lead to stardom in early sound movies. Finally, in 1937, at the age of 40, MGM put him under contract, but still limited him to supporting roles. His "big break" finally came in 1941 with "How Green Was My Valley", and he became one of MGM's top stars of the early 1940s (no doubt helped by so many other male stars being away at war). He stayed with MGM for the remainder of his career.

Condition: good. There are around 20 tiny circular holes scattered in the left and right of the card. Several are in Ellis' red clothing, but none are in her face or hair. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back of the card!
