An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Single-Sided One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 39 1/2" [69 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Schindler's List, the classic 1993 Steven Spielberg (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) World War II (WWII) Nazi Germany military concentration camp persecution-of-Jews melodrama ("Whoever Saves One Life, Saves the World Entire."; "Based on the novel by Thomas Keneally"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; screenwriter Steve Zaillian did a wonderful job adapting and expanding Thomas Keneally's superb book, and the movie is a triumph on all levels with wonderful writing, acting, and direction) starring Liam Neeson (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Oskar Schindler), Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Caroline Goodall, Jonathan Sagalle, and Embeth Davidtz NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Saul Bass Important Added Info: Note that this poster features wonderful concentration camp barbed wire art (with the title list attached to one of the barbs) by Saul Bass! Bass submitted this design but it was not chosen for the movie. However, some one-sheets were printed with this art (no doubt to get the opinion of executives and others connected to the movie), and a few of those survive (all those that are known to survive seem to have originated from a single group of them that was sold to a movie poster store by a studio employee, and several of these have been auctioned and re-auctioned over the 26 years since the movie came out, and not surprisingly, the price keeps rising, because it is a wonderful poster!). Please bid knowing that this poster is a rare unreleased poster, and that it measures 27" x 39 1/2" [68 x 101 cm], but it has not been trimmed (it was created at a very slightly different size, but the poster stretched slightly during the linenbacking process, which is not at all uncommon, and it is definitely an original poster!). The poster certainly has a magnificent image, and one wonders why the studio executives did not choose to use it for the release of the movie! It will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall. Note that we have auctioned several examples of this poster, but because they have all been unfolded and mostly in excellent condition, it is really difficult to know when we are re-auctioning a poster, and when it is one we have not auctioned before. But it is a certainty that a tiny number of these posters were printed compared to the ones that were printed for use in theaters, and they are surely many times more rare than the ones used in theaters. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It had a tiny scuff in the lower right background area. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
