An Unfolded Limited Edition German Special Poster (measures 25 1/4" x 39 3/4" [64 x 101 cm]) (Learn More)

Olympische Spiele Munchen 1972 (Munich Olympics 1972), the 1969 - 1972 Olympic poster that was part of two series of posters created for the Munich Olympic Games of 1972. The Posterization series was created by various photographers and artist Otl Aicher, who used a technique called "posterization". Aicher created 21 posters using the official design colors and logo (one of the posters became the official poster of the games). The Art Series was an attempt by the Organizing Committee to invite famous artists to express their ideas on the Olympic Games and human movement. These posters were printed in a hand-signed/numbered very limited edition of 200, a limited edition printing of 2,000 and a general printing. The Posterization and Art series posters were often displayed side-by-side around Munich.
Artist: Fritz Winter
Important Added Info: The artist of this poster, Fritz Winter, was born in Germany in 1905 and is considered one of the most famous German post-war artists. He was a member of Bauhaus Movement in the 1930s and his work was considered degenerate by the Nazis. He was drafted into the army and captured by the Russians on the Eastern Front and not released until 1949. During the '50s and '60s he was a leading member of the European Avant-Garde Movement. He never recovered from the injuries sustained during the war and suffered from them until his death in 1976. Also note that this poster is from a limited edition of 2,000 prints. These posters differ from the first print run in that the artist's signature is printed onto the paper as part of the printing process.

Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded and has very minor wear around the edges.
