An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Danish Movie Poster (measures 24 1/2" x 33 1/2" [62 x 85 cm]) (Learn More) King Kong, the classic 1933 Merian C. Cooper & Ernest B. Schoedsack Africa New York City giant ape fantasy romantic love triangle adventure horror thriller ("'The most awesome thriller of all time' the one and only"; "Not beast.. Not human.... Not devil.. But all three magnified! Raging.. Roaring.. Crushing.. Killing.."; "Strangest story ever conceived by man!"; "Out-leaping the maddest imaginings! Out-thrilling the wildest thrills!"; "See the living, fighting monsters of Creation's dawn rediscovered in the world today!"; "See the death-fight between giant ape and prehistoric dinosaur... the most amazing combat since the world began!"; "See the ape as big as a battleship wrecking New York!"; "Unique..! Thrilling! Startling!"; "From an idea conceived by Edgar Wallace & Merian C. Cooper"; based on the story by Edgar Wallace, with incredible special effects by Willis O'Brien) starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong (as Carl Denham), Bruce Cabot, Frank Reicher, and Sam Hardy NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Boye Important Added Info: Note that this poster (with a really cool different image of a fierce Kong slobbering over chained Fay Wray!) is unusual, because we know there is a 1948 Danish re-release that has the exact same image as this, and looks almost exactly the same, but that poster has a different printer than this one. This one is printed by "Dvya & Jeppesens Bogtrykkeri, Aktieselskab" while the 1948 poster is printed by "Nornotryk A/S", and that is a Danish printer that is unknown to us. The poster offered here seems likely to date from before 1948 (perhaps during World War II or immediately after. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had three horizontal folds and one slightly off center vertical fold. It had creases, scuffs, tiny tears, and a few small areas of paper loss on parts of the foldlines. It had a penny-sized area of paper loss in Kong's hair at lower left, with some tears coming off of that, and it had horizontal tears and scuffs with tiny paper loss in the extreme left, in Kong's shoulder. There were creases and tears in the extreme right, in Kong's other arm, and some scuffs and tears above the left and right of the bottom foldline. There were some tears and smudges around the edges of the poster, with small paper loss in the bottom right blank corner and in the center of the top border. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed, onto a fairly thin linen. In spite of all these defects, the poster still would display nicely just as it is, because they are not all that distracting, or certainly, any talented restorer could remove the poster from the thin linen and re-back it, and after proper restoration, it will look incredible!
