A 1938 Re-release Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good. The card had pinholes around the edges of the card and just a few creases and tears in parts of some borders, and tiny paper loss in each blank corner, caused by rough removal of the pins. A restorer used some sort of conservation tape to cover the above defects, and to tape small replacement pieces of paper to the missing blank corner areas, and then touched up the card from the front. They did NOT do heavy restoration, and you can see slight signs of the defects when you look closely at the borders, but they are not very distracting at all. Almost all of the defects were in the blank borders, except for a tear in the center of the bottom border that extended into the "IC" of "PICTURE", and a pinhole in the bottom right of the image background (to the right of the quote mark at the end of the title), and a tiny pinhole in the lower part of the jacket of the man at right. So the card has had almost no actual restoration in the image area. It displays great, and I think just about any collector would be quite happy to display this great card on their wall!
