Date Sold 8/3/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Behind the Mask, the 1932 John Francis Dillon medical doctor crime thriller (about a federal agent who goes undercover in jail to trap some drug smuggling crooks led by a dishonest doctor) starring Jack Holt, Boris Karloff, Constance Cummings, Claude King, Bertha Mann, Edward van Sloan, and Willard Robertson. Note that this movie was made before "Frankenstein" was released, but was released afterwards, but apparently, the movie paper had already been created, or else Karloff would surely have had much larger billing, and he does not appear on the one-sheet, and he may only appear on scene lobby cards or stills! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a one-sheet (30 years ago), a different scene card (12 years ago), a pressbook (17 years ago), and two stills from this movie (and NO other movie paper) until we received this lobby card (and we were also consigned an ultra rare title card, which we are auctioning in a separate auction)! Most important, the one-sheet does not depict Karloff, and in the other scene card did not show him, but THIS scene card has a wonderful image of him! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. The card has darkened, typical of Columbia lobby cards of this period. It has pinholes in the corners and smudges in the edges of parts of the blank borders, with a few faint stains around the edges, extending into the forehead of the green man at top left. There are faint scuffs in the surface emulsion of the scene, but they are mostly only noticeable when the card is tilted to the light. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! This incredibly rare card can be displayed and enjoyed exactly as it is, or one might choose to have restoration performed. Either way, the new owner will have an incredible rarity!
