Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration.

The poster had many tears and areas of paper loss in the top 1/4 of the vertical foldline. There was separation and many tiny areas of paper loss across the top foldline. There was paper loss at the bottom two crossfolds and some small tears and tiny areas of paper loss in the bottom half of the vertical foldline. There was a large area of paper loss in the center of the top blank border extending 1" into the background area at the top center of the image. There were pinholes, small tears, and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The person who backed the poster did a pretty good job of repairing the above defects, but you can see the restoration when you look closely at the poster, and it is slightly noticeable from a distance. Note that the poster was roughly handled after it was linenbacked, and there are now many creases down the left and right edge of the excess linen of the poster (but these creases do not affect the actual poster, and some of this excess linen could be trimmed off with no harm whatsoever to the poster).
