An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 9 1/2" x 12 1/2" [24 x 32 cm]; 60 pages) (Learn More) The Big Parade of Stars, the 1927 MGM campaign book ("King of them all") featuring images and information about upcoming MGM movie releases for the 1927-28 season. Note that in the two years preceding this, MGM had campaign books with tipped-in 8" x 10" sepia and black & white images of the stars. Apparently, this year, they probably decided that it was not worth doing this, and they instead printed really nice full-color artwork images of their top stars within pages that have biographies of them. They also have several pages of great artwork ads for the upcoming films, including Lon Chaney in The Hypnotist (which was the working title for London After Midnight, the famous lost film), Lillian Gish in Annie Laurie, and Greta Garbo in Love. There is a great 2-page spread on Our Gang, and the Our Gang kids are also pictured on a different page. Note that even though this campaign book was sent to many theater owners, it appears that very few examples have survived. I have been a collector of campaign books and related material for many years, and I know for certain that this campaign book is extremely rare! Finally, note that campaign books in general are extremely rare, and the best of them have often sold for hundreds of dollars, and in the case of the very finest, thousands of dollars! Important Added Info: Note that this hardcover campaign book was printed in the U.S. but designed to be used in Australia and New Zealand, as indicated by the snipe which says "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Australia and New Zealand Season 1928". It is virtually identical to the version designed for the U.S. An Australian collector has a slightly different version with 40 pages and different release dates. We believe that the one offered here would pre-date the 40 page version and a new one was needed when the release dates changed. Note: We have 11 images of this campaign book, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 11 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 1. Condition: very good.
