An Original Vintage Linenbacked South American World War II Poster (measures 28" x 40 1/4" [71 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) WWII Propaganda Poster, the 1940s South American World War II (WWII) poster featuring Ontiveros art of Adolf Hitler and Emperor Hirohito imprisoned by Allied flags. In the bottom right corner it says "Publicada por El Coodinador de Asuntos Interamericanos, Washington, E.U.A." (Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs), so it would seem to be from South America or Central America, although we have seen it identified as being from Mexico. Note that The Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs (later known as the Office for Inter-American Affairs) was a United States agency promoting inter-American cooperation (Pan-Americanism) and countering Italian and German propaganda in the region. It was started in August of 1940 with Nelson Rockefeller as its head. To perform its role, the FBI trained the secret police of friendly nations, German sales to military forces was displaced by American aid, Pro-German newspapers and radio stations were blacklisted, Government censorship was encouraged, and Latin America was blanketed with pro-American propaganda. The poster had fine surface paper loss on parts of the folds and some tiny pinholes around the edges. It had some tears in the right of the top border.
