Date Sold 9/1/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 4 DC Shazam comic books. Captain Marvel (Shazam!) is a fictional comic book superhero that was created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck in 1939 for Fawcett Comics. The character was first named Captain Marvel but Fawcett ceased publishing Captain Marvel-related comics in 1953, partly because of a copyright infringement suit from DC Comics (alleging that Captain Marvel was a copy of Superman). In 1972, DC Comics licensed the Marvel characters from Fawcett, and returned them to publication in a comic book called Shazam! (which was due to trademark conflicts over another character named Captain Marvel owned by Marvel Comics). The character is the basis of the 2019 live-action film with Zachary Levi in the title role. Note that the items in this lot are mostly from the 1970s. Please note that we don't use a "comic guide" grading system, and OUR grading scale is completely different from standard comic book grading. Our "very good" is completely different from a comic book graded "very good".
