An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 11" x 14 1/4" [28 x 36 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Contre-enquete (literally translates to "Against Inquiry"), the 1930 John Daumery romantic gangster crime melodrama starring Daniel Mendaille, Suzy Vernon, Jeanne Helbling, and Georges Mauloy. This was a French version of "Those Who Dance", made by Warner Bros in 1930 (there was also a German version, "Der Tanz geht weiter", and a Spanish version, "Los que danzan"). Universal did the same thing with "Dracula" in 1931. They filmed the movie twice, once in English, and once in Spanish, with two entirely different casts, U.S. actors for the English version and mostly Latin actors for the Spanish version, obviously for release in Spanish speaking countries, and the same was done with this movie, except there were four versions (the English language version starred Lila Lee and Monte Blue, the Spanish version starred Antonio Moreno and Maria Alba, and the German version starred William Dieterle and Lissy Arna; Dieterle later became the famous director, and here he was billed under his given name of Wilhelm). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: Note that there is a snipe on the back, telling that when First National wanted to make a French version of this movie, they brought French actress Suzy Vernon in from France to star in the movie. Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock and it has an embossed photographer's stamp one of the bottom corners. Also note that this still measures 11" x 14 1/4" [28 x 36 cm].

Condition: very good.
