An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Over the Edge, the cult classic 1979 Jonathan Kaplan crime teen rebellion melodrama ("They're at the rebel point... and there's no turning back."; "A real story of teenage rebellion."; "Nobody listened. Nobody cared. Until the night they went 'Over the Edge'"; "It really happened"; "Watch out for children"; "Hear the music of Cheap Trick, The Cards, Van Halen, Little Feat, The Ramones, Valerie Carter, and Jimi Hendrix"; "8:30 The parents hold an emergency meeting in the junior high schools windowless auditorium."; "9:00 Their sons and daughters gather outside."; "9:01 The kids of New Granada are ready.") starring Michael Eric Kramer, Pamela Ludwig, Matt Dillon (in his very first movie role!), Vincent Spano, and Tom Fergus. Note that this movie, which brought Matt Dillon into the public eye, has a very unusual history! It was made right after The Warriors and The Wanderers were released in 1979, and since both those movies sparked teen violence after their openings, supposedly the studio decided not to give Over The Edge a release in the U.S. (apart from a few cities on a test run basis). But after it was well-received by many critics and it was successfully shown on HBO in 1980, the studio gave the film a U.S. limited release in 1981, and a wider release in 1982! However, based on newspaper ads for theaters, the release in 1979 may have been larger than previously thought. There are 4 U.S. one-sheet posters for this movie and we had believed that some were created for the later releases, but all four styles show up in newspapers promoting the film from mid-1979 into early 1980 (usually outside of "major" markets), and not the 1981 or 1982 releases. So apart from newspaper reviews, we're not sure what advertising campaign they used in 1981 or 1982 (we've seen only a single 1982 22x29 poster with no taglines). So obviously there is still considerable mystery about the release of this movie! If anyone knows more, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Wilson McLean Important Added Info: Note that this was a great "little" movie that was barely released in 1979, but received much acclaim from critics. There is a "regular" style one-sheet which has artwork of teens in a car crashing into a billboard, which seems likely to have been an attempt to make the public think that this was a "standard" teen movie of the time (and that poster has a "Geneva Monopole Pathe" logo at bottom right). There is another one-sheet poster that does not have that logo, which far better reflects what the movie is about. There is also a third completely different poster that is smaller than a one-sheet! We don't know which of the three posters came first, and complicating this is that the movie had a brief opening in the U.S. in 1981, and then a general release in 1982, but this poster is dated 1979. Any one of these posters could be from any of those releases, and it is also possible that any of them could have been prepared for the intended 1979 U.S. general release that never happened! NOTE THAT THIS ONE SEEMS TO BE TRYING TO SELL THE MOVIE AS A "HORROR" FILM (and it has cool different artwork by Wilson McLean)! We have no clue if this one came before, during, or after the others! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good to very good. The poster has some creases scattered throughout from being tightly rolled at one time. There are smudges around the edges and on back of the lower portion of the poster. It is otherwise in generally nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
