An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Gilda, the classic 1946 Charles Vidor Buenos Aires Argentina romantic love triangle bad girl gambling casino crime film noir ("'Johnny, let me go, please let me go. I can't stand it any more...'"; "Now they all know what I am..."; "'I was true to one man once ...and look what happened!'"; "'I didn't think I'd be true to a man again as long as I lived...'"; "'I warned you to let me alone. And I mean it!'"; "There never was a women like Gilda!") starring Rita Hayworth (in the title role "as Gilda"), Glenn Ford, George Macready, Joseph Calleia, Steven Geray, Joe Sawyer, Ludwig Donath, Robert Scott, and Gerald Mohr. Note that the sheath dress that Rita Hayworth wears in the movie (designed by Jean Louis) certainly contributed greatly to the popularity of this movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that everyone is familiar with the wonderful style B one-sheet from this classic movie, with the image of Rita Hayworth full-length in the sheath dress that is practically glued to her (and it sells for massive amounts of money, most recently over $25,000 the last time we auctioned it). But the first release half-sheets are far more rare! We have only previously auctioned each style of half-sheet (neither is marked) one time, and now we have again been consigned an example of this great style of half-sheet, which has Hayworth in the sheath dress at center, and two images of her and Ford to the left and right, and the most classic tagline ("There NEVER was a woman like Gilda!") at top center! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Also note that because this poster was backed onto a fairly stiff heavyweight paper backing, we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package rather than attempting to roll it in a tube, so bear that extra expense in mind before placing a bid on this poster. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was folded once in each direction and it had tiny paper loss at the crossfold and creases and scuffs along both folds, with small paper loss in the left and right of the horizontal fold, in the white background areas. It had pinholes, small tears, and a few small areas of paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Also, the poster was slightly roughly handled, and there are a few creases around the edges, with a tiny bit of paper loss in the left of the top border and a tiny portion of the bottom right corner was slightly folded over, and those two areas could easily be expertly restored (although, of course, they will not show if the poster is framed).
