Date Sold 12/10/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Linenbacked Autographed Special Poster (measures 12 1/2" x 18" [32 x 46 cm]) (Learn More) The Ritz theater was built in 1929 and was the first theater in Austin to be built specifically for the talkies. The Ritz was originally segregated like most movie theaters in Texas and other southern states at that time; there was a separate entrance leading to a balcony reserved for people of color. It showed primarily first-run westerns and frequently brought in stars like Wild Bill Elliott and Dub Taylor. During the 1960s to the 1970s, the theater changed many times (switching back and forth between a regular theater, an adult theater and music venue). It became a popular rock venue in the 1980s, and in 2007, it was renovated and became the new downtown location for the Alamo Drafthouse. Artist: Kerry Awn Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been personally autographed (signed) by the artist, Kerry Awn (the poster is from 1982, but the signature was obtained in 1989)! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was never folded. It was in pretty nice condition prior to linenbacking. Someone mounted it onto a thin linen with no excess. They did not use the best glue, because it is "lifting" from the linen all around the edges, which is not a very big defect, but after it was backed, it was also roughly handled, and there are now many creases scattered around the edges of the poster and also some light stains in the lower left and right border (see our image).
