Haynes, Nina Mae McKinney, William Fountaine, Harry Gray, Fannie Belle DeKnight, Everett McGarrity, Victoria Spivey, Milton Dickerson, Robert Couch, Walter Tait, and Matthew 'Stymie' Beard NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Al Hirschfeld Important Added Info: Note that first release U.S. posters from this movie are beyond rare (to the best of my knowledge, no one has ever sold a U.S. one-sheet). We auctioned a single U.S. lobby card 23 years ago, and it auctioned for $1,500. In 2015, we were consigned two individual heavily restored scene cards, one that had a great deal of restoration (and that one sold for $1,197) and the other with a somewhat lesser amount of restoration (and that one sold for $1,927). In May of 2018, we auctioned a third card, which had far less than those other two, and it auctioned for $1,593. Now we have been consigned this fourth card, with a wonderful image! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. The card had a 1 1/2" x 1/4" area of paper loss in the left of the top blank border. It also had a 1/2" x 1 1/2" area of paper loss in the top right corner, just slightly affecting the solid black background. It had a crease running at a slight diagonal across much of the top blank border, with some tiny paper loss in one small part of the crease, in the blank area. It had some stains and tiny areas of paper loss scattered around the edges of the card, affecting both border artwork images, and the MGM logo. There was a 4" tear in the right of the bottom border that extended up into the right edge of the inset image, and there were some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss in that area and also in the lower left of the inset image. Overall, the card was in fair to good condition prior to restoration. A restorer gel backed the card (meaning they backed the card onto a gel material) and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, so that the card still looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. Given the card's many defects, the restorer did a pretty good job, but you can still clearly see signs of the restoration and likely after it was backed, it was roughly handled, which caused some new creases in the right of the top blank border. The card displays pretty well, and certainly, one might prefer to find a better condition example, but these cards are so incredibly rare that that might take many years. However, please read all of the above carefully and look at our super-sized image before bidding on this incredibly rare card. Learn More about condition grades
