HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL ('59) HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL ('59) 3sh OR search current auctions Auction History Result w005 HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL linen three-sheet movie poster '59 Vincent Price Date Sold 11/7/2006Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 41" x 81") (Learn More) House on Haunted Hill (some stills identify the movie as "House of Haunted Hill" but a collector tells us that he saw the film on the opening weekend and it was titled "House on Haunted Hill"), the 1959 William Castle haunted house horror thriller ("First film with the amazing new wonder Emergo [specially installed for this engagement] The thrills fly right into the audience!"; "The 13 greatest shocks of all time! Consult your doctor! Bring your seat belts! See it with someone with warm hands!") starring Vincent Price, Carol Ohmart, Richard Long, Alan Marshal, Elisha Cook Jr., Carolyn Craig, Julie Mitchum, and Leona Anderson. Note that the "gimmick" for this movie (Emergo) described above consisted of an actual fake skeleton that was pulled out from above the screen on a wire and dragged across the audience when the skeleton on the movie comes out of its box, and then it is reeled back in across the audience, making two trips. This required special equipment, and apparently many theaters chose not to install it, because the pressbook has special ads for it only for theaters that have the Emergo equipment. We have read that some of the theaters that DID install the equipment had it uninstalled, once teen boys learned of it, because they would come to the showings with slingshots and damage the skeleton with rocks or BBs! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: This three-sheet was printed in 2 sections. Condition: very good to fine. The poster had some tiny areas of paper loss at a few crossfolds. There were some extra creases on some foldlines. There were many tiny horizontal tears in the bottom of the middle foldline, but most are very tiny (there is one that is 1 1/2" long above the word "CAROL" in the credits). There were some creases, pinholes, and small tears in the borders. There was a semi-circular area of paper loss in the right blank border to the right of the bottom of the girl's dress. There is a tiny are of surface paper loss in the extreme right of the image 4" down from the top corner and four tiny areas of paper loss in the top background area near the center of the poster close to the top blank border. There is some tiny surface paper loss in the center of the top border that just extends into the edge of the image. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed. It appears that the tiny surface paper loss in the top of the background area and in the center of the top border occurred after the poster was linenbacked, and it would be a simple matter for any restorer to touch up those tiny areas without re-backing the poster.
