An Original Vintage East German Stage Play Poster (measures 31 1/2" x 45 1/2" [80 x 116 cm]) (Learn More)

Der Rabe (literally translates to "The Raven"), the 1981 East German stage play production (of the 1777 play by Carlo Gozzi) which was held at the Volksbuhne in Berlin, East Germany. Note that the Volksbuhne (also known as the Freie Volksbuhne) theater in Berlin was built during the years 1913 to 1914 and was designed by Oskar Kaufmann, with integrated sculpture by Franz Metzner. It opened on December 30th, 1914 and has its origin in an organization known as the "Freie Volksbuhne" ("Free People's Theater") founded in 1890 by Bruno Wille and Wilhelm Bolsche. The goal of the organization was to promote the plays of the day at prices accessible to the common worker. During World War II, the theatre was heavily damaged like much of the rest of Berlin. From 1950 to 1954, it was rebuilt according to the design of architect Hans Richter.
Artist: Frank
Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been mounted onto a "Chartex"-like material (we are not 100% certain it is Chartex, but if not, it is something very similar. Chartex is a backing paper that is a linen-like paper, similar to the material you line drawers with. It serves its function well in that the poster is preserved, which is why many restorers other than movie poster restorers use it, but it is very difficult to impossible to remove from the back of the poster. SO DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THAT IT LIKELY CAN'T BE REMOVED FROM ITS BACKING, AND WILL NEED TO BE KEPT AS IT IS (although it is not harming the poster, and it enables it to be displayed).

Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It was mounted onto "Chartex" (see above). It has excess Chartex at the top and bottom. It almost surely can't be removed from the backing, but fortunately, it is in nice condition and can certainly be displayed as it is.
