Note that this film was distributed by Messter Film. Oskar Messter was an innovative German film pioneer, and in 1896, a year after the Lumiere brothers showed the first film, Messter developed the first Maltese cross projector, opened the first German film studio and opened the second movie theater in Berlin (after the first one opened that same year by the Lumieres themselves). Messter Film was one of the dominant German producers before the rise of UFA, into which it was ultimately merged. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare "country of origin" poster from Germany from before World War II, which we have never auctioned before! There are very few German movie posters from before World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums. Also note that this German poster was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Finally, note that the theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Finally, note that the poster has an artist's signature on it, but we cannot read it. If anyone knows the name of this artist, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: fair to good. The theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). The poster has darkening, tears, and small paper loss on parts of most folds and pinholes, tears, and some paper loss around the edges. There is some ancient brown paper that was used to patch some tears that is actually old German newspaper. Learn More about condition grades
