A 1955 Re-release Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 22" x 28") (Learn More) The Wizard of Oz, the classic 1939 Victor Fleming family magical fantasy adventure musical ("MGM's miracle musical show of shows!"; "It's Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Technicolor triumph!"; "Magnificent in its brilliant Technicolor splendor!"; "At Last It's Here Biggest Sensation Since "Snow White"!"; "The mighty miracle show that is the talk of America!"; "Amazing sights to see! The Tornado, Munchkinland, Horse of a Different Color, Startling Balloon Ascent, The Flying Monkeys, The Tree That Throws Apples"; "Gaiety! Glory! Glamour!"; based on the classic book of the same name by L. Frank Baum; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Judy Garland (as Dorothy), Frank Morgan (in the title role as The Wizard of Oz!), Ray Bolger (as The Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (as The Cowardly Lion), Jack Haley (as The Tin Man), Billie Burke (as Glinda, the Good Witch), Margaret Hamilton (as the Wicked Witch), Charley Grapewin, "The Munchkins", and Toto too! Note that MGM was worried about how well this movie would do at the box office, and they did something we don't remember seeing on any other major movie advertising! One of the taglines says "Biggest sensation since Snow White", which means MGM was advertising a Walt Disney movie, but that shows just how worried they were! Of course, they needn't have worried, because this was a timeless classic that has only improved with age. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this half-sheet has a completely different design from either of the 1939 original half-sheets, and it's full color too (and of course, it has a much larger image of Judy Garland, because she was so prominent when this classic movie was re-released in 1955)! Note that the poster says "A METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER MASTERPIECE REPRINT" in the bottom center. This was a terminology used by MGM at this time for some re-releases, and it has caused some collectors to be confused! This poster is the original poster from the 1955 re-release of this movie, and is NOT a "reprint"! Also note that this poster has never been machine folded! Most half-sheet posters were folded once horizontally and once vertically right off of the printing press. It is very difficult to find an unfolded example of most half-sheets, especially from before 1970! Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It was rolled at some point, and there are some light vertical creases scattered in the image. There are some scuff marks scattered in the upper left of the image, primarily in Garland's cheek and hair. There are some tiny tears in the left of the top blank border, and someone put tape on the back of that area. There was a 3" tear near the center of the top border and someone put tape on the back of that tear. There are two tiny tape stains in the lower left blank border slightly extending into the edge of the image. There are some small tape repairs on the back of the left and right blank borders, mending small tears. THE POSTER IS IN MUCH BETTER CONDITION THAN THE ABOVE MAKES IT SOUND! None of the above defects are all that distracting from any reasonable viewing distance, and I would think most collectors could happily display this great poster just as it is. Of course, any talented restorer could paperback this poster, and after slight restoration to the above described defects, this great poster would look fantastic! Learn More about condition grades
