An Original 1950 (from the first release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47" x 63" [119 x 160 cm]) (Learn More)

L'apocalisse (literally translates to "The Apocalypse"), the 1947 Giuseppe Maria Scotese Italian post World War II (WWII)/contemporary Rome fantasy melodrama (a really cool movie that contrasted the decadence of post World War II Italy with the excesses of Ancient Rome) starring Tullio Carminati, Massimo Serato, Alfredo Varelli, Vera Bergman, and Lilia Landi. Note that this is sadly a lost movie, but it sounds fascinating, and certainly, the only poster we have seen on it, a French poster, makes it all the more interesting! If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: L. Ferri (spelling?)
Important Added Info: Note that we first auctioned this poster unbacked in 2014, and it was reconsigned to us in 2022. The person who purchased it then had it expertly backed, and while we appear to have only previously auctioned two examples of this French poster, they are the same exact one as this, so it is still the only example of this wonderful poster we have ever auctioned!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
