He was primarily a fine TV actor who rose to prominence in a supporting role in TV's "Hawaii Five-O", but he became a leading star with his starring role on TV's "St. Elsewhere". He appeared in some TV movies and also feature movies, including: The Grasshopper, MacArthur (as President Truman), and Bye Bye Love. He passed away in 1995 at the age of 60.
