An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Arthur Somers Roche's Penthouse, the 1933 W.S. Van Dyke pre-Code courtroom legal lawyer crime mystery thriller ("From the Cosmopolitan magazine story by Arthur Somers Roche"; about a distinguished lawyer who defends a notorious gangster, and then he is shunned by everyone but gangsters, and he has a romance with the beautiful young Myrna Loy!) starring Warner Baxter, Myrna Loy, Charles Butterworth, Mae Clarke, Phillips Holmes, C. Henry Gordon, and George E. Stone. Note that Phillips Holmes had made an impression in some movies in the late 1920s. In 1931, he would get the lead in the first version of "An American Tragedy", which made it seem like he would become a major star, but that didn't materialize. He had a major affair with Libby Holman, but that was certainly complicated, and when they broke up, she immediately married his brother! Oddly, years later, Holman would have another very complicated affair with Montgomery Clift, who played the same part in the remake of "An American Tragedy", re-titled "A Place in the Sun". Sadly, Holmes died in a plane crash in 1942. I am very surprised no one has made a movie about his life, or a joint movie about him and Libby Holman! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. The card had some tiny pinholes and smudges around the edges, with a crease in the bottom right of the image. It had a tiny pinhole in the bottom of Loy's chin. Overall, the card was in good to very good condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer gel backed the card (meaning they backed the card onto a gel material) and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, so that the card still exactly looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. You can see slight signs of the restoration, but the card displays pretty well! Learn More about condition grades
