A 2013 Re-Release Theatrical Folded French "Petite" Movie Poster (measures 15 3/4" x 21" [40 x 53 cm]) (Learn More) La Belle et la Bete (released in the U.S. in 1947 as "The Beauty and the Beast"), the classic 1946 Jean Cocteau French romantic fantasy adventure (based on the classic fairy tale by Madame Leprince de Beaumont; about a handsome prince who has a spell put on him that turns him into a beast, and he can't change back unless a beautiful woman loves him as he is!) starring Jean Marais (in a dual role as both la Bete and the Prince), Josette Day (in the title role as Belle), Mila Parely, Nane Germon, Michael Auclair, and Marcel Andre. Note that this movie had wonderful special effects (both by 1946 standards, and even by present day standards) and that it is one of the best loved fantasy movies of all time. In 1991, Walt Disney turned this into an animated feature length musical, and it has since been turned into a Broadway show and a live action movie, but this version still remains the best of all!
