He is most famous for his line art caricatures of movie stars and celebrities over many decades. He was also married to Broadway actress and performer Dolly Haas until she passed away in 1994. Hirschfeld passed away in 2003 at the age of 99. Important Added Info: Note that this photo has been personally autographed (signed) by Al Hirschfeld's wife, Dolly Hirschfeld (she signed it for both of them). DO NOT BID ON THIS THINKING IT WAS SIGNED BY AL HIRSCHFELD, BECAUSE IT WAS SIGNED BY HIS WIFE. Our consignor is a longtime collector who purchased this signed item from a reputable dealer, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to be authentic.
