An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) The General Died at Dawn, the 1936 Lewis Milestone romantic China war mercenary spy espionage adventure thriller ("Two great stars in Clifford Odet's thrilling adventure drama of today's turbulent, war ravaged China!"; about an American mercenary fighting on the side of peasants in a Chinese rebellion, and he is given a lot of money to buy weapons, and he is captured, and he and his girlfriend are tortured to get them to reveal where the money is) starring Gary Cooper, Madeleine Carroll, William Frawley, Dudley Digges, Akim Tamiroff (in the title role as General Yang; nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Porter Hall, and J.M. Kerrigan NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: poor. Much of the top blank area had been trimmed off and there were some creases, smudges, and tears in the borders with some tiny dot stains in the yellow background area. The card was then restored and paperbacked, and displayed well, but sadly, something happened while it was framed, and it now has a great deal of staining scattered over the image (it is likely mildew). Surely a talented restorer could repair this card, but it would likely require between some and a lot of paint restoration over the affected area, so please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have it properly restored.
