An Original Vintage Advertising Poster (measures 26 1/4" x 39 1/2" [67 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) RC Cola (short for Royal Crown Cola) is a brand of cola-flavored soft drink developed in 1934. In 1905 Claud A. Hatcher (partially because of a feud between him and the local Coca-Cola salesman) started producing soft drinks under the name Union Bottling Works. The first product in the Royal Crown line was Royal Crown Ginger Ale followed by Royal Crown Strawberry, and Royal Crown Root Beer. In 1910 the company was renamed Chero-Cola and then Nehi Corp in 1925. In 1934, Rufus Kamm reformulated an existing flavor and it was re-released as Royal Crown Cola. in 1955, the company was renamed to Royal Crown Company after the success of its RC Cola brand. In 1984, RC Cola accounted for approximately 4-5% of soft drink sales in the United States, behind only Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, and Seven Up. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster, which was an advertising promotion between Samuel Goldwyn and the makers of Royal Crown Cola, and it advertised both the soda and Ball of Fire, Gary Cooper's latest movie (but he is not dressed as he is in the movie, and rather he is wearing western clothing, no doubt because he was a western star)! The poster was created on a fairly heavy board, one that can't possibly be rolled, so it will need to be shipped in a very large flat package that measures approximately 28" x 42", so bear this in mind before bidding on this rare poster. Condition: good. There is light staining scattered in the right half of the poster, more so in the right 15". Fortunately, there is almost none on Cooper's image, although there are some small stains on his sleeve. There is a 3" tear in the lower left border that goes into the bottom of the "Sam". There is some minor wear around the edges and a few scuffs and smudges scattered in the upper left background area. In spite of its defects, the poster can be displayed and enjoyed, or restoration can be performed. Learn More about condition grades
