Star Trek is an American science fiction (sci-fi) entertainment franchise created by Gene Roddenberry in 1966, with the first Star Trek TV show. Oddly, the first pilot for it was not "picked up" by the network, but that was likely a lucky break, because star Jeffrey Hunter was then replaced with William Shatner, and the rest, as they say, is history! The franchise has spawned several television shows, over a dozen theatrical films, and many books, comics, and games.
