An Original Vintage Movie Script (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], 124 pages) (Learn More)

Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the 1960 Michael Curtiz adventure comedy (based on the famous Mark Twain novel; "A wonderful world of excitement!") starring Tony Randall, Patty McCormack, Neville Brand, Mickey Shaughnessy, Judy Canova, Buster Keaton, Andy Devine, Finlay Currie, Sterling Holloway, Archie Moore (former light-heavyweight boxing champion; billed as "Presenting Archie Moore as Jim"), Eddie Hodges (billed as "Also starring Eddie Hodges as Huckleberry Finn"), and John Carradine. Note that this movie was originally begun in 1952, when it would have starred William Warfield as Jim (he had just made "Show Boat"). The project was naturally a musical and included four new songs by Alan Jay Lerner, and it would have had Dean Stockwell as Huck and Danny Kaye and Gene Kelly as the con men! But the project was abandoned. It was resurrected in 1959, and at that point, the musical idea was dropped, and it was filmed as a comedy with the above cast. One wonders what the original musical version would have been like, especially with that very different cast.

Important Added Info: Note that this script is the revised draft from September 10, 1959 and the screenplay was written by James Lee. It includes a few revision sheets from 9/11/59, 9/16/59, and 9/29/59. Interestingly, the cover of the script lists "lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner", so one wonders if initially it was going to be a musical, as was proposed in 1952 (see above), or if this was just an accident, when someone was likely copying the credits from an original 1952 script. Also included is an actual letter from an MGM executive to a theater manager in New Jersey about the release date for this movie. The letter is written on MGM stationery that has an image from Ben-Hur at the bottom!

Condition: very good. See our multiple images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this script.
