Join the Rescue Service, the 1952 U.S. poster produced by the Federal Civil Defense Administration, encouraging citizens to join the Rescue Service (which was an aspect of the Civil Defense), and featuring Lester Green art of men working to free a woman from rubble. The United States Civil Defense was an organized non-military effort to prepare Americans for military attack. Over the last few decades, the term and practice of civil defense have fallen into disuse and have been replaced by emergency management and homeland security.
