An Original Vintage Theatrical 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) A Child is Waiting, the classic 1963 John Cassavetes mentally-and-emotionally-challenged-children-locked-away-in-institutions melodrama ("Burt Lancaster & Judy Garland take an untouched theme, and make it touching and unforgettable!"; "A child can be so many things, warmth... love... laughter... and sometimes a child can be heartbreak!"; "Only Burt Lancaster and Judy Garland could tell this untold story... And make your heart tell it over and over again!"; "If this were flesh of your flesh - would you hold it close, protect it, love it, or would you turn your back and run..."; "Burt Lancaster and Judy Garland ignite a motion picture that gives so much... that goes so far... looks so deep into the feelings of man and woman!"; "See it! - Don't be ashamed - learn the facts! This story is true! It has no color or race barriers! Because it could happen to any person or family!"; "Parents! Where is your child tonight?"; "Written by Abby Mann"; about Lancaster running a school for mentally deficient and emotionally disturbed children; daring for its time, both in its willingness to deal head-on with difficult issues, and for casting real mentally deficient actors in key roles) starring Burt Lancaster, Judy Garland, Gena Rowlands (the wife of the director, in a small, but excellent role!), Steven Hill (decades before "Law and Order"), Bruce Ritchey, Paul Stewart, and Lawrence Tierney (in a small role as Gena Rowlands' second husband) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this really cool candid shows producer Stanley Kramer clearly giving advice to his disinterested young director John Cassavetes. We have been told that when this daring movie was in post production, Kramer started re-editing the movie, without bothering to tell Cassavetes, and that Cassavetes learned of it at a Thanksgiving dinner he was hosting where Kramer was present, and that when he heard the news, he punched Kramer, which caused him to be blackballed from making major studio productions, and led him into his great career with avant-garde movies outside the Hollywood mainstream, so if this story is true, Kramer did Cassavetes a favor!
