11 1945 Re-Release (re-titled "The Bandit and the Lady" for this re-release) Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More)

"Michael Strogoff" (also released as "Soldier and the Lady"; see below), the 1937 George Nichols Jr. Russia historical war romantic adventure melodrama ("Hollywood's boldest romance... Hurled to the screen in astounding scenes of electric excitement and pounding thrill!"; "From Jules Verne's mighty novel 'Michael Strogoff'"; this was much filmed in the 1910s to 1930s, and Walbrook also starred in the 1936 German version, "Der Kurier des Zaren") starring Anton Walbrook (billed as "Introducing Hollywood's newest star Anton Walbrook"; as Michael Strogoff), Elizabeth Allan, Margot Grahame, Akim Tamiroff, Eric Blore, and Fay Bainter. It is interesting that this movie was released with two entirely different titles. Since the 1937 posters that say "Michael Strogoff" just list the stars, while the posters that say "The Soldier and the Lady" list Anton Walbrook as "Introducing Hollywood's newest star", we wonder if the movie wasn't first released as "Michael Strogoff" and that it wasn't doing that well, so they gave it a "sexier" title, and played up Walbrook's billing (but of course, it is possible it was the other way around, trying to build the connection to Jules Verne's popular novel; he movie is based on the novel, "Michael Strogoff: The Courier of the Czar" written by Jules Verne in 1876). Apparently, this was an incredibly popular action novel of that time, and over the years, there have been around a dozen film adaptations, both silent and sound! Sometimes the lead character's name is changed slightly so as to not sound foreign to the country that made the movie.

Important Added Info: SUPER IMPORTANT! THOUGH ONLY EIGHT OF THE STILLS ARE PICTURED, THE HIGH BIDDER ON THIS LOT WILL RECEIVE 11 STILLS FROM THIS MOVIE (but realize that on some of these lots with 9 or more stills there may be a few duplicates, mostly on post-1960 lots)! We realize there is an element of gambling to this, but we made only a small effort to find the best stills in these lots, and, if you have any willingness to gamble at all, you may find that you get some great stills that were not pictured! Please do NOT bid on this lot unless you can accept that you are only seeing eight of the stills.

Condition: good to very good.
