An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 3 1/2" x 5" [9 x 13 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) Wild Bill Hickok (released in Denmark as "Wild Bill"), the 1923 Clifford Smith silent historical gambling cowboy western ("By William S. Hart - Adapted for the screen by J.G. Hawks"; the movie is set right after the Civil War, when the legendary gunfighter has decided to retire and become a card dealer in a western gambling casino; he falls in love, but the woman is married, and he stops some crooks) starring William S. Hart (in the title role as Wild Bill Hickok), Ethel Grey Terry (as Calamity Jane), Kathleen O'Connor, Jim Farley, Jack Gardner (as Bat Masterson), and Bert Lindley (as Wyatt Earp). Note that William S. Hart was friends with the real life Wyatt Earp, and he included his character in a minor role in this movie, six years before he passed away (Hart was the producer of the movie and helped write the screenplay). There is also a Calamity Jane in this movie, and it would be interesting to compare this movie to the later depictions of Hickok and Calamity Jane! The only surviving example of this movie is incomplete, and it is missing a section in the middle where Hickok goes to visit General Custer, so hopefully one day someone will find a complete example!
