An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style D One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Smilin' Through, the 1941 Frank Borzage family relationship musical romantic murder melodrama ("The musical triumph in Technicolor"; "New Technicolor Masterpiece!"; "Based on the play by Jane Cowl and Jane Murfin"; about a man whose wife was murdered, and he adopts her orphaned niece, but when she grows up, she falls in love with the son of the man who murdered her aunt) starring Jeanette MacDonald ("Queen of song! Magic music!"), Brian Aherne, Gene Raymond, Ian Hunter, and Frances Robinson NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: fair. This poster has been linenbacked, but it was not very well done, likely both because the restorer did not do a good job at all, and because the years since it has been linenbacked have not been kind to the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. Generally, it had many water stains down the left 4" and across the bottom foldline. There were pinholes, stains, and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. The poster was not well backed at all, because you can still see some or all of the defects generally described above (in some cases, as should be immediately evident in our image, the linenbacker did no restoration to some of the defects), and if there was restoration of the above defects, it was not done very well. Certainly, a talented restorer could perform additional restoration (either with or without re-backing the poster), but it might be fairly expensive to have this done, so bear that in mind before you place a bid. The poster was backed onto a very thin linen with no excess that could likely easily be peeled off from the back, and then the poster could be properly restored. Learn More about condition grades
