Some of his movies include: Days of Wine and Roses, Of Mice and Men, Johnny Belinda, The Big Country, A Star is Born, Song Of Bernadette (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), and Farmer's Daughter (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film). Note that Bickford never placed all his eggs in one basket when it came to his financial security. At one time he owned a gas station and garage, a half interest in a pearling schooner, a pair of whaling boats, a hog farm, a chicken ranch, a lingerie shop, and purchased an island off the coast of the Indonesian island of Java where coconuts were harvested!
